Genuine Composition Media Carplay Head Unit

Just wondering if there has been any discussion or DIY videos done on retrofitting a VW Composition Media unit into an earlier model Amarok.

These units appear to be widely available and were fitted as standard on late model Amaroks.
The late model Highline and Sportsline models have a similar unit (Discover Media) but with the addition of inbuilt Navigation. This seems unnecessary when you can use Google Maps or Apple Maps on the Composition Media model.

I just bought one from a wreckers for a great price and am keen to install it and get the carplay features.

However they have "component protection" which is some kind of anti-theft feature which might need to be deleted by a dealership.

In theory if it physically fits, then it can be programmed via vcds... The security thing might be a pin code to unlock it?

Recently fitted two of these, one to son in laws 2011 Amarok, one to daughters 2007 Golf, including reversing cameras, all good, no problems at all. I think he will even code the radio for the reversing camera if you need it.
