According to the BOOK the TDI400 Ultimate was available as 4Motion selectable or 4Motion permanent
Trendline and Highline had 4Motion selectable
Now remember TDI400 did not have Auto gearboxes

Given the circumstances my funds are limited, around the $25k ish mark, and in dual cab land that doesn't leave you many options if you want something less than 7-8 years old or that doesn't have a million KM's on it. So from my searching there are 2 potential candidates. An Amarok or a Triton, both with roughly 100,000kms on the clock. The triton is a little cheaper but they are pretty nasty in comparison, and both seem to be similar money to service (if nothing major goes wrong). Initially I was looking at D-Max's but they are holding their value far too well.

What about something like this? Only 11,000kms too.

My mate has a base model triton and i really rate it for the price. Best value for money on the market imo.

I happen to have a vw amarok sales brochure from February 2012.

It states that all ultimates come with selectable 4motion (with low range) and permanent 4motion was an optional extra. Only on the ultimate tho. Doesn't say if the permanent 4motion has low range or not, but I would assume it does have if it's a manual.

Depending on build date I assume they will all be manuals as the auto didn't come out until late 2012 from memory.

Thanks Scott, it's good when guys on model specific forums are open to other options, given my budget I have been looking at Tritons as well, purely because they're pretty good value (I just wish the older ones weren't so god damn ugly) but the new shape tritons actually drive pretty nicely!

Ex ‘Spirit of Amarok’ MY17 TDI400 core 4x4s are turning up for sale at dealers for $35k-$40k. Usually less than 1500km on the clock. Not sure that revving the clappers out of them when brand new makes for a long life though. Seen them described as ‘VW executive driven’ LOL
